Statistics

  • “A culture of impunity undermines respect for fundamental rights, breeds corruption, and leads to a vicious cycle of law-breaking…”

Only 37% of those surveyed worldwide believe that a high ranking government official would be prosecuted and punished for stealing government money.

    — “The WJR Rule of Law Index 2012-2013”. worldjusticeproject.org. 2012. Web.pdf. 04 Mar. 2014.

  • Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) measures “the abuse of public power and focus on: bribery of public officials, kickback in public procurement, embezzlement of public funds, and on questions that probe the strength and effectiveness of anti-corruption efforts in the public sector.”

Africa, the Middle East, and Russia have the highest concentrations of perceived corruption.

It is difficult to measure absolute corruption. In general, perceived corruption is based on illegal activities that appear in scandals, investigations, or prosecutions.

Of 177 countries, two-fifths have less than 50/100 points in the CPI 2013.
